Helping disabled veterans land good jobs

Veterans2Work is a non-profit (501(c)(3)) organized to help special-needs veterans find, and succeed in, work to fit their circumstance. Our overall mission is to improve the employability and job success of special-needs veterans and their caregivers. Our vision is a world in which special needs veterans enjoy access to work opportunities available to all Americans. Our belief is that, given the opportunity, special needs veterans can and will deliver superior results.

U.S. military veterans with a service connected disability number more than 2.6 million. 700,000 of those served in the Gulf War era alone. Most are eager and able to work but are often deprived of the variety of opportunities available to most Americans.

V2W works directly with reputable businesses to create jobs for special-needs veterans e.g., work that can be done from home with a computer and a telephone, such as customer service, market research, appointment setting and technical support. V2W also recruits, screens and prepares veterans for direct employment. Services are provided free of charge to veterans.

The faces of Veterans2Work

Hello to all, my name is Scott Tieman and this is my wonderful, fun and optimistic family. I am a Disabled Veteran with a disability rating of 70%. I may look fine when you see me on the street or meet me for the first time, but here is an insight to behind my doors of pain and ongoing daily issues. I work part time. Even working part time I find it hard to continue days without the pain of my ankle and knee. I am now attempting school for a degree in Business with a current GPA of 4.0 through my 3rd semester. Being disabled limits a person’s abilities to do a lot of things in life. I work on myself every day and try to find ways to become better and better my family. The money I receive from Veterans Affairs assists with being able to pay rent and help with bills. Even working part time, my family and I are still not able to afford the things we should as a family.

Disabled Veterans are not looking for handouts, but we want to show everyone in the world that we may be limited, but we are not gone. We still have life in us and have families to support to live the American dream. We are currently looking to find a house we can call home. We will one of these days. I thank my wife, for I would not be where I am today and have a positive outlook on life. I am very intelligent and an overachiever, but being labeled as disabled it takes that away from me. I am grateful for everything and know it is just a blessing to live. It is unfortunate that we cannot afford daycare for the boys so my wife can attempt going back to school or even work. I know that there are many Americans that have it worse than my family and we help as much as we can through clothing donations and such. I believe in giving back and paying it forward for others. I love life, but I hate my disabilities. There are much more to my disabilities than what is talked of in this passage, but know I try not to allow them to overtake my dreams and my life. I also feel that the truth may scare others off as it has happened to me in the past. It is hard to be a Disabled Veteran and it gets the best of us most of the time, but we live and have will. We just have to find the way.
